After big “zigs” into positive territory today, major stock indices “zagged” into negative territory and closed with small to moderate losses.  The Dow fell further into correction territory and now has a 11.3% decline from its all-time high close of 36,799.65 on Jan. 4.

Finally today, after days of mostly declines, major stock indices closed with moderate to very large increases.  The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) was up 1.65% to 34,725.47, while the Standard & Poor’s 500 stock index was up 2.43% to 4,431.85.  The NASDAQ Composite index was up 3.13% to 13,770.57.

At the beginning of the trading day, major stock indices had significant increases.  However, just before the middle of the trading period, major stock indices began sharp declines.  After a day full of notable “zigging” and “zagging,” the indices closed with small to moderate losses.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) was down 0.02% to 34,160.78, while the Standard & Poor’s 500 stock index was down 0.54% to 4,326.51.  The NASDAQ Composite index was down 1.40% to 13,352.78.
