After being on the verge of default yesterday, Greece defaulted on its payment to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) today. If Greece ultimately is unable to pay its debts, or to finance its domestic obligations, the country’s economy and financial system most likely would collapse. last-minute overtures to creditors Greek voters will decide in a referendum on July 5 whether their government will support the tough economic overhauls and budget cuts that creditors are requiring for more emergency cash. European officials are casting the referendum as a decision whether or not Greek voters want to stay in the eurozone. |

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 350.33 points, or 1.95%, today. This was the largest one-day drop since 2013. The big sell-off is due to fears about what is happening with Greece’s financial situation. Worst Drop of 2015, Amid Ongoing Greek Crisis The word “Grexit” has been floating around. This is an abbreviation for “Greek exit” and refers to Greece’s potential withdrawal from the eurozone. Should that happen, Greece might have to revert to using the drachma, which was its currency until 2001, rather than the euro. |

In ancient Israel, the prophet Isaiah lived during the 8th century B.C. He was the greatest prophet of all. For instance, he correctly predicted both the destruction of Israel by Assyria and the destruction of Judah by Babylon (Isaiah 7:17-25, 39:5-7). He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. (Isaiah 53:3-7) Day of Discovery Ministries has released a four-part video series focusing on Isaiah 53, from both Jewish and Christian perspectives. The videos, each under 30 minutes in length, can be viewed here: |

Today, in a 5-4 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriage is legal across the nation, in all 50 states. Here is the 103-page Supreme Court syllabus for this case, along with justice opinions and dissents: Ohio Department of Health, et al. Included is a requirement of every state to recognize a same-sex marriage performed in another state. This is one of the most momentous and culturally significant rulings in American history. Marriage Is a Constitutional Right President Obama called the same-sex marriage ruling a “victory for America.” He also said, “This morning, the Supreme Court recognized that the Constitution guarantees marriage equality. In doing so, they have reaffirmed that all Americans are entitled to the equal protection of the law, that all people should be treated equally, regardless of who they are or who they love. Today we can say, in no uncertain terms, that we made our union a little more perfect.” Tonight, the White House is saturated with rainbow colors, clearly displaying approval of today’s victory for gays. So much for Barack Obama’s alleged “Christian values” in originally deeming that marriage is a sacred union between a man and a woman. For decades, I have felt that God’s ultimate judgment on the United States has been dependent upon the way this nation deals with three major issues:
Abortion was legalized in 1973. The U.S. has become less and less friendly toward Israel, especially during the Obama administration for the past 6½ years. And, today, the Supreme Court has legalized same-sex marriage in all 50 states. Since the foundational meaning of marriage (Genesis 2:23,24; Matthew 19:4,5; Ephesians 5:31,33) has been fundamentally transformed, anything else could follow. This very well might lead to polygamy—and even the “right” to marry animals, children, and inanimate objects. |

Today, in a 6-3 decision, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the Obamacare subsidies nationwide. Here is the 47-page Supreme Court syllabus for this case, along with justice opinions and dissents: Health and Human Services, et al. The court ruled that subsidies are valid even in states that did not set up their own insurance exchanges. About 8.7 million Americans receive a subsidy. the Supreme Court, again The case revolved around four key words in the Affordable Care Act law: “established by the State.” The law was written to persuade each state to establish an exchange, where its residents would have to go to obtain health insurance. Many states did not set up exchanges, though, which should have stopped Obamacare in its tracks and forced the Congress to make needed changes in the law. the Supreme Court, again This was the second time that Roberts has been a positive vote and voice for Obamacare, the first time being on June 28, 2012. Justices Antonin Scalia, Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito dissented. |

On this first day of summer, my dad is in heaven, and I look forward with great anticipation to seeing him again one day. For all of you other dads: HAPPY FATHER’S DAY, and God bless you for doing all the great and wonderful things that you do for your families. My dad was very smart and knowledgeable about many things. He had some hobbies, the main one of which was professional photography, but he also enjoyed oil painting. Although has has been gone for awhile, I would like to share with you four of his nature paintings: 12-second slideshow One of the Ten Commandments reads this way: Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you. (Exodus 20:12) On this Father’s Day, for those whose fathers are living, do something to honor your earthly father or even your heavently Father. Do it even if, for some reason, you are estranged or alienated from him/Him. All things happen for a purpose and a reason. Sometimes it is up to those who have been disrespected or disregarded to attempt to make things right. Doing this, even with a dad (or mom) with whom you have not had a good relationship for years or decades, actually may cause you to live longer than you otherwise would, according to the Fifth Commandment. |

The bond hearing of Dylann Roof took place today. Roof, 21, ruthlessly murdered nine members of the AME church in Charleston, SC, two nights ago. This was after a prayer meeting, at which Roof was graciously welcomed by those he later killed. to Dylann Roof by victims' relatives The hearts of these exceptional people are extraordinary, and they are to be greatly commended. They are very powerful examples of doing what Jesus said: And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins. (Mark 11:25) Sometimes God allows what He hates to accomplish what He loves, and love is stronger than hate. I believe that those who have forgiven the wicked man who murdered their loved ones will receive many blessings in their lives here on earth and great rewards after Jesus returns to rule and reign. |

An incredible young man, 16-year-old Hunter Treschl, was interviewed in his hospital bed today. This was at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina. victim: "I didn't see it coming" I am amazed at how calmly and articulately Hunter, only two days after a life-changing event, described what had happened to him. Moreover, I am extremely impressed how determined he is to “fight and live a normal life.” |

Today is the Christian celebration of Pentecost, exactly seven weeks following Resurrection Day (Easter). At the first Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4), Jesus’ disciples were filled, supernaturally, with the Holy Spirit (Ruach HaKodesh) and spoke in other “tongues.” Other God-fearing Jews, who had gathered there from many other nations, heard these men declaring the wonders of God in their own languages (2:5,6,11). On the day of Pentecost, Jews “from every nation under heaven” (Acts 2:5) had returned to Jerusalem (following the commandment of Deuteronomy 16:16), indicating that they already had been widely dispersed among the nations by that time. Today the dispersion is even greater. |

There are many Christians, including myself, who observe the Sabbath on the seventh day of the week (today), as stated in Exodus 20:8-11, Deuteronomy 5:12-15, and Leviticus 23:3. Most who believe this will observe the Sabbath from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday. |

After 35 years on TV, tonight was David Letterman’s final show. Over the decades, I have not watched his Late Show too much, as I found him to be only mildly humorous and interesting. For me, Johnny Carson and Jay Leno were funnier and more entertaining. It was sort of funny. I thought the five presidents saying, “Our long national nightmare is over,” was funnier. I did watch the entire Late Show finale, which lasted 1 hour 17 minutes. Then I yawned really wide and went to bed. |

Today in Boston, a federal court handed down the death penalty to Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. He and his brother, Tamerlan, exploded two bombs at the Boston marathon on Apr. 15, 2013, exactly 25 months ago today. Four days later, on Apr. 19, Tamerlan was killed and Dzhokhar was taken into custody.
I have heard that Dzhokhar was hoping for the death penalty. If so, perhaps this was because he did not like the prospect of spending the rest of his life confined to a small prison cell. Or perhaps he has been thinking about the unending luxury, abundance of fruits and drinks, and chaste females (virgins) that allegedly will be his in paradise, according to the Qur´an (Sâd: 49-54). |

Believers in Islam have a difficult time comprehending the Trinity of God, whom they see as monotheistic. They feel that Christians worship three Gods, and to them that is blasphemous. Here is my response to a Muslim about this topic: |
||||||||
Anyone who believes in God has wondered why, if He is so good, so many bad things happen in the world and in our own lives. My simple response to that is to quote what God said about it: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8,9) Basically, it is beyond our ability to fathom the way God does things and the reasons He allows events to happen. I believe that, after Yeshua/Jesus returns, He will enable us to comprehend, on a higher level, God’s vast thoughts and ways, and His great Plan will make a great deal more sense to us. |

Today is the 70th Anniversary of Victory in Europe Day or VE Day. It marked the end of World War II in Europe. That happened eight days after Adolf Hitler committed suicide, on Apr. 30.
Unfortunately, even with Nazi Germany’s unconditional surrender of its armed forces, Japan officials refused to accept the Allies’ demands for unconditional surrender. Had they done so, it would have prevented the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki three months later. In other news, Judicial Watch recently filed a lawsuit, on behalf of the Alliance for Defending Freedom, against the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). It is an attempt to obtain documents pertaining to the decision by the IRS to re-evaluate the criteria it uses to determine the tax-exempt status of churches and investigations into church activities. In July 2014, a request was sent to the IRS requesting documents for the previous 5½ years. The IRS invoked its own extensions to process the request in August, September, and November 2014 and in January 2015. As of March 31, 2015, the IRS still had not complied with the request. Thus, the lawsuit has been filed, stating that the IRS is unlawfully withholding the records requested. Most likely, Christian churches in the U.S. will continue to be investigated by governmental agencies, including the IRS. Furthermore, the Supreme Court may announce in June that same-sex marriages are legal nationwide. As we approach the end of the age, there will continue to be an escalation in the persecution of churches and the Christians who attend them. |

Today is the National Day of Prayer. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and it was signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Be a good prayer warrior and seek God’s grace, mercy, guidance and safety for your family, the place where you live, and the world as a whole. If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. An online threat has been released by ISIS. It was posted by Abu Ibrahim Al Ameriki and indicates that they are increasing in number bithnillah or with the permission of Allah. Click here to read the threat.
Geller has responded as follows: This threat illustrates the savagery and barbarism of the Islamic State. They want me dead for violating Sharia blasphemy laws. What remains to be seen is whether the free world will finally wake up and stand for the freedom of speech, or instead kowtow to this evil and continue to denounce me.Of the 15 states in which ISIS claims to have soldiers ready to attack when the word is given, 5 states were listed in the threat: Virginia, Maryland, Illinois, California, and Michigan. There also was a statement that “the next six months will be interesting.” |

Investigations continue today following an attack at an American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) event in Garland, TX. This is where the Islamic conference, “Stand with the Prophet in Honor & Respect” (mentioned in my Jan. 13 entry) took place on Jan. 17.
If there are those who do not like what you say or do while exercising your right of free speech, does that give them the right to come and try to kill you? An increasing number of radical Islamic jihadists believe they they have that right, and this intolerance is going to continue spreading. |

She added that there is sufficient probable cause to file criminal charges against the six officers involved. Now, the six Baltimore police officers involved in the arrest of Freddie Gray will face criminal charges, ranging from murder to manslaughter to assault. Other officers have been charged with assault in connection with Gray’s death. |

Members of the violent Islamic State (ISIS or ISIL) have been murdering innocent people for some time. Here are a couple of recent examples where Christians were killed:
Furthermore, six Somali-Americans have been arrested in Minneapolis and San Diego and charged with terrorism. They have been accused of traveling or attempting to travel to Syria to join the Islamic State group. There already have been numerous examples of others like this in the USA:
Our prayers need to go out to Christians, throughout the world, who are being persecuted and killed for their faith. Furthermore, members of radical Islam are murdering those of all religions, including moderate Muslims, who do not agree with them. All of these need our prayers as well. Such attacks are on the increase, and they will continue escalating until the end of the age. Christian believers who are not yet under attack by Islam need to consider that, with time, it may happen to them. They need to decide whether, at that time, they will give their allegiance to the Father and Son, Jesus, or to Allah and his prophet, Muhammad. I know what my decision will be: I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. (Philippians 1:20,21) The god of Islam wants people to die for him. On the contrary, the one true God died and was raised for us so that those who believe in Him can have everlasting life. |

The first man, Adam, was made from the dust of the ground, and God told him that he would return to dust: The LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. (Genesis 2:7) The name “Adam” is linked to adamah, the Hebrew for ground or earth. Besides originating from and returning to dust, Adam tilled the soil in the Garden of Eden, as well as after he left the garden. |

This is tax day in the USA. Sometimes it is difficult to justify paying taxes to a government that has mismanaged its revenue so colossally. Yet, the apostle Paul stated, Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor. (Romans 13:7) Indeed, the only things that are certain for most Americans are death and taxes. The difference is that death does not get any worse everytime Congress meets. |

Today is Eastern Orthodox Easter, as compared to the Western Church Easter (Resurrection Day) that was observed a week ago on Apr. 5. Today is a good friend’s birthday. She is hoping that people attending her “birthday” bash will write poems for her. I don’t think I am creative enough to write a poem. So even though I am not a good baker, I told her I’d make her a cake instead. 15-second slideshow She wanted a chocolate cake, but she couldn’t decide if she wanted chocolate frosting or cream cheese frosting. So I used both. I think this cake has the thickest frosting of any that I’ve ever seen. My writing on the cake was kind of sloppy, but it turned out better than a poem would have. |

This morning, I bought the most candy that I’ve ever gotten at once. It was 241.2 ounces (a little over 15 pounds), which was 0.4 ounce more than the Christmas candy I got on Dec. 26, 2014. I still have some of that left. I was just thinking that the next time candy is half-off is the day after Halloween. That’s okay because I think my share of today’s stash will last until then, probably with some left over. |

This is the Feast of Firstfruits or Resurrection Day. It is the day that Jesus rose from the dead. Eventually, all who believe in His blood atonement for their sins will do the same. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. But each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. (1 Corinthians 15:20-23) The majority of these resurrections, I believe, will take place at the main Rapture event. These glorified saints never will need to fear God’s severe judgment, and they will be exempt from His righteous wrath. In other news, Arabs harrassed Jews touring the Temple Mount today. Numerous threats were made. Mount on Chol Hamoed Pesach This article details the history of Arab/Jewish hostility in Jerusalem since 1948: |

There will be a total eclipse of the moon very late tonight, well after midnight on Apr. 4. In many places, it will be visible just before dawn. The moon will have a reddish color, giving it a “blood moon” designation.

The Iran nuclear talks continued in Switzerland today. Yesterday was supposed to be the last day. Representatives from Russia, China, and France already have left and gone home. I keep waiting for one of those who are remaining to come out and say, “April Fool’s!” Iran’s uranium enrichment program is only one of many threats that Israel faces for its very existence. That is no April Fool’s joke, either.
