Chaiten Volcano Eruption: February 19, 2009

The Chaiten volcano in southern Chile roared back to life February 19, 2009, forcing the evacuation of more than 150 people.  They had returned to the town after it was destroyed by a volcanic eruption on May 3, 2008, setting off minor earthquakes and forcing thousands of people to flee the area.  Days later, the activity intensified, with lava and ash shooting 12 miles into the sky.
