1. Use an ellipsis (...) where words, phrases, or sentences are omitted within a quoted passage.
    • “We the people...do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

  2. Use an ellipsis followed by an additional period (that is, four consecutive periods) where words, phrases, or sentences are omitted at the end of a quoted statement.
    • “In the beginning....”

  3. Use an ellipsis followed by a question mark where words, phrases, or sentences are omitted at the end of a question.
    • “Did you mean...?”
