Starting Out

An unlimited number of people can play this dice game.  However, the more players there are, the longer the game will last.

It is recommended that a tablecloth or a large towel be placed on the tabletop.  Otherwise, if the dice are rolled on a hard surface, they will tend to scatter.

Each player is given 10 dice, or else one or more sets of 10 dice can be passed from player to player.  It usually is best to have two or three sets of 10 dice to pass around if each player cannot have his/her own set.

Each player rolls 1 die.  The player who rolls the highest number starts the play.  If two or more players roll the highest number, each of those players rolls 1 die until one of them rolls the highest number.  Play continues clockwise (that is, the person to the first player’s left plays next, and so on.)

One person should volunteer or be chosen to keep score, using a pencil or pen and a scorepad.

Goal of the Game

The winner of the game is the first one to attain at least 100 points (unless another player, on his/her next turn, ties or surpasses the top score, in which case the first player has another chance on his/her next turn to tie or surpass that score, etc.).  A lower goal (such as 75 points or 50 points) may be set to reduce the total playing time.

Playing and Scoring

On his/her turn, a player must call out either “odd” or “even”; then all 10 dice are rolled by the player.  If “odd” was called, then all the odd-numbered dice in the roll are added to obtain the player’s score for that hand.  If “even” was called, then all the even-numbered dice in the roll are added to obtain the player’s score for that hand.

Odd-Numbered Dice:   1 'odd' point = 1 “odd” point   3 'odd' points = 3 “odd” points   5 'odd' points = 5 “odd” points
Even-Numbered Dice:   2 'even' points = 2 “even” points   4 'even' points = 4 “even” points   6 'even' points = 6 “even” points

Sample Rolls

Player #1 calls “odd” and rolls ==> score is 17.
Player #2 calls “even” and rolls ==> score is 22.
Player #3 calls “odd” and rolls ==> score is 15.
Player #4 calls “odd” and rolls ==> score is 20.
Player #5 calls “even” and rolls ==> score is 16.
Player #6 calls “even” and rolls ==> score is 24.
